About Michelle

Michelle was raised on a family farm in the western Minnesota community of Murdock where her family still farms today. Growing up she learned the value of hard work and personal responsibility. Her work ethic and determined attitude led her to graduate with a B.A. in chemistry from St. Catherine University in Saint Paul and later with an M.B.A from the University of St. Thomas.

Michelle used her education to become a Certified Public Accountant in her professional career. Her background includes audit and consulting work at Deloitte, as well as being the executive director at the Upper Midwest Security Alliance. Her experience as an auditor and accountant has made her excellent at exposing unnecessary waste, fraud, and abuse. Furthermore, her experience has demonstrated a clear ability to be a reliable problem solver.

Michelle is also very active in her community. Her passion for education led her to serve as a board member for the Challenger Learning Center of Minnesota and The Way of the Shepherd Montessori School. Her belief that all children deserve the right to life led her to volunteer at Birthright, an organization dedicated to giving women support through difficult pregnancies. She also has experience as a youth baseball coach and scout leader.

Michelle resides in Ham Lake with her husband Craig, and their three children.

Craig grew up in Crosslake as the son of small business owners. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and  veteran of the United States Navy submarine force. Michelle understands first-hand the sacrifices members of our military and their families make for our country. She works to instill the same values of faith, hard work, and determination in her children.

Michelle deeply cares about her family, her faith, and our state. Her commitment to public service led her in 2010 to run for State Senate and win. Her Anoka, Sherburne, and Isanti County district stretches from the northern suburbs of the metro to rural Minnesota. Her experience as a suburban mother has helped her form unique connections with many of the key voters who decide elections. Michelle would later be reelected in 2012, 2016, and 2020. Her latest election saw her get more votes than any Republican senate candidate in the entire state.

Her electoral success is due in large part to the results she has delivered at the legislature. In the Senate, she has been a leader in lowering health care costs, protecting individual privacy rights, and exposing government waste. She has chaired the powerful Senate Health & Human Services Committee since 2017. In that capacity, she has stopped harmful legislation to mandate vaccinations, allow abortion up until birth, and implement socialized medicine. She has also been a positive agent for change by spearheading thoughtful health care reforms like Minnesota’s successful reinsurance program that stabilized the individual health insurance market.

Michelle has also been a strong fighter for conservative values. She is tied with one other Senator for the highest lifetime American Conservative Union voting record in the Senate. She has been on the side of conservative Minnesotans every step of the way. She has led the fight against Governor Walz’s misguided COVID-19 policies, DHS CCAP fraud, and shady government contracts. She has never wavered against Democrats and weak Republicans’ attempts to undermine our 2nd Amendment, overregulate our energy sector, and have government take over our health care.

Michelle’s unique depth of knowledge and wide-ranging skill set has won her tremendous respect among her colleagues. She was elected to leadership  from 2012 to 2020. She  was selected as Senate Deputy Majority Leader from 2017 through 2020 and used her position to be a voice for conservatives in the caucus. . Her friends and adversaries alike know they better be on their A-game if they need to debate her on the merits of an idea. She has made it clear you can never mistake her politeness for weakness. Where many other legislators like to trumpet their minor accomplishments, she has steadily gotten meaningful things done behind the scenes often without credit.

Despite her impressive Senate record, she is convinced there is much more she can do to help our state. Today, we see our state tearing apart. Governor Walz’s Washington DC attitude has led to an out-of-touch bureaucracy that thinks it can run our lives. Many of our streets are no longer safe and many of our schools are failing. She’s also watched as some fellow conservatives have either backed down or would rather complain than take meaningful action.

Michelle is a strong conservative leader with deeply held Minnesota values. She will reform the bureaucratic institutions that have worked for politically connected fat cats and against ordinary Minnesotans for years. It is time for a change. Michelle can defeat Governor Walz and bring Minnesotans together to create a Safer, Better, and Stronger State.
